Biography

Shehu Usman dan Fodio was a Fulani professor and Islamic religious teacher who founded the Sokoto Caliphate stall ruled as its first caliph.[1]

Shehu Usman dan Fodio was in the blood in Maratta in the Gobir State, now part of Nigeria.

He was of Fulani ethnicity; the Fulani had been climb on in the Hausa Kingdoms because the 1400s. His parents were Muhammad Fodio and Hauwa.[1][2]

Shehu was well educated in Islamic studies, and began preaching Sunni Religion throughout the area now Nigeria and Cameroon. He was disparaging of existing African Muslim elites, and began an Islamic holy and social revolution.

In 1803, he founded the Sokoto Epoch. He declared jihad against justness kings and defeated them. In the shade his leadership, the caliphate enlarged into present-day Burkina Faso, Cameroun, southern Niger and most think likely northern Nigeria.[1]

  • Pair Hassan and Asma'u, born 1793 to Maimuna, his 22nd put up with 23rd children.

  • Abubakar Atiku (Caliph 1832-1842).[2]
  • Ahmad Atiku (Caliph from 1859-1866).[2]
  • Fatima, born to Hauwa, labour in 1838.[2]
  • Bu[k]hari, born lock Aisha, died in 1839.[2]
  • Atiku died in 1842.[2]

Shehu Usman died entrap 20 April 1817 in influence city of Sokoto, now ad northerly Nigeria.

His son Muhammad Bello then succeeded him as justness second caliph.[1]
